On Thursday, July 13, 2017, the Redding Police Department conducted several special enforcement operations throughout the city.  The current shift schedule utilized by the Department has a built in overlap day which occurs once a month.  This schedule enables the Department to conduct officer training to meet the required state and federal mandates without incurring overtime costs.  The Department is currently up to date on all mandated training which allowed for extra enforcement efforts on this date.

The special enforcement operations included bicycle patrol, all terrain motorcycles, undercover surveillance operations, and a two officer patrol focused on night-time high crime areas.

Officers worked in conjunction with the community cleanup coordinator and recovered 67 shopping carts throughout the city.  Sixteen citations were issued to people in illegal possession of shopping carts.

Surveillance operations were conducted in several areas identified for high drug traffic.  Nineteen people were contacted and seven arrests were made for various drug violations.  Five of the seven arrests involved people on either probation or parole.  One person was cited for driving on a suspended license and the vehicle was towed.

Bicycle and all terrain motorcycle patrols were conducted throughout the city.  The river trail and city parks were the primary focus of the patrols.  During the patrols, the officers wrote thirty-six citations and made two arrests.

The two officer car assigned to the identified high crime areas recovered one occupied stolen vehicle resulting in three felony arrests.  In addition, two arrests were made for parole violations, one felony warrant arrest, two open container citations, and fourteen additional misdemeanor citations for various violations.

Future operations will depend on the availability of resources and will be planned in conjunction with crime trends and community needs.
