On Friday, July 29, 2016, at approximately 7:00 a.m., agents with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Investigation Team eradicated a large Mexican DTO (Drug Trafficking Organization) marijuana grow on an unimproved parcel off Gordon Dr. in Bella Vista, Shasta County. Agents removed over 36,000 marijuana plants in various stages of growth and seized over 65 pounds of processed marijuana. As agents entered the grow site, they located a 2010 Toyota Tundra that had 50 plastic containers containing marijuana seedlings that were being prepped to be planted on the property. Agents did not locate anyone on site.
Agents also located a large amount of garbage that poses a threat to the local wildlife and the environment. Water for the plants was being pumped using an underground well and generator. Agents estimate that the plants would need approximately 4-6 gallons of water a day to thrive. Shasta County Code Enforcement Officers were called to the scene and will be investigating the county building code and ordinance violations found. The Toyota Tundra was seized pending further investigation into the responsible(s) of this operation.
