Anselmo’s European segment of the continuing travel saga
January 6, 2010 by: adminIn the last issue of the East Valley Times, Reverge and Chicken Anselmo were in Bermuda. Their next stop was London where they stayed at The Dorchester Hotel, located a few blocks from Buckingham Palace. Even though the weather was rainy and cold, they enjoyed a few sights and then left for Paris, France on Christmas Eve. “It was a one hour flight from London to Paris,” said Chicken. “The train was out of service for some reason and we thought it would be awful to catch a flight on Christmas Eve. It was so easy; all the seats were not even full.”
The Anselmos stayed at the Bristol Hotel in Paris. During their stay, they went to a monastery and visited The Sisters on Christmas Day; they also went to the country home of Pierre-Marie Dumont, the publisher of Magnificat, a magazine for the Catholic Church that Reverge and Pierre-Marie started many years ago; and Notre-Dame de Reims, the Roman Catholic cathedral of Reims. (This is where the kings of France were once crowned.)
Reverge ended the year being debilitated by a bout with the Swine Flu. Moving to the Hotel Raphael, blocks from the Eiffel Tower, Chicken was on her own walking around seeing the beautiful sights. They spent New Year’s Eve inside their hotel room hoping not to contaminate anyone. “There are special lights all over the Eiffel Tower and it is beautiful. We can hear people shouting and partying, but I am very content to stay here in our hotel room for it is rainy and extremely cold!” said Chicken.
The duo had made plans to go to Lourdes to stay at Reverge’s farm house, but now plan to go straight back to London. “We are getting out of Paris on a train and going directly to London. A seven-hour long train ride [to Lourdes] would not be good for either of us,” said Chicken.
Chicken said if she was going to get the Swine flu herself, (she already has symptoms) Reverge says they would be better off in the UK. “If I am sick it would be easier for me to be able to talk to people,” said Chicken.
Once they are both healthy again, they hope to continue and see more of the country of France, but they may start their journey home sooner than anticipated.
When back on US soil, they will continue their Huey expedition homeward bound. But, they will first make a stop in Washington D.C. for a meeting Jan. 13 on Capitol Hill regarding funding for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department. Then they’ll be off to Dallas, Texas again to see Reverge’s new B26 Bomber that should have been delivered there by then.
