On Thursday February 18th, 2016, Agents with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Investigative Team (SMIT), Shasta Interagency Narcotic Task Force (SINTF), AB109, Burney Patrol Division and California Department of Fish and Wildlife Watershed Enforcement Team served a Shasta County Superior Court Search Warrant at two locations in Shasta County. The first location was at a property located in the 30000 block of Smith Logging Rd in Oak Run, CA and the second was at a piece of property located in the 21000 block of Hwy 299E in Bella Vista, CA. Also on scene was a member of the Shasta County Planning Division investigating separate Shasta County Code Violations.

As a result of the search warrant, Agents located 1,486 growing marijuana plants at the Smith Logging Rd property. The marijuana plants were located in three separate sophisticated indoor cultivations sites in three separate buildings. Agents also located approximately 5 pounds of processed marijuana and multiple firearms. At this location contact was made with a Baron Risling, 35 years old from Hoopa, CA. Risling found to have prior felony conviction which prohibits him to possess any firearms or ammunition. Agents subsequently seized a large diesel powered generator that was used to facilitate the commercial growing operation. Baron was subsequently arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for being ex-felon in possession of a firearm along with multiple Health and Safety violations.

At the Hwy 299E property, agents also located a sophisticated indoor marijuana cultivation site and found 668 growing marijuana plants. No subjects were located at this property. Agents subsequently seized two boats and one motorcycle believed to be purchased from the illegal sales of marijuana. Agents also located and seized one utility box trailer believed to have been used to facilitate the commercial growing operation.

Both locations were found to be connected and the primary suspect has been identified as George Reuben Carey, age 32 from Oak Run, CA. A case will be submitted to the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for review along with seeking an arrest warrant on Carey for his involvement in the operation. A total of 2,154 growing marijuana plants were seized from the two locations.
